A dramatization of a true crime story is next on the docket…We’ll read and discuss The Murderess by New York Times bestselling author, Laurie Notaro.

In 1931, when Winnie Ruth Judd arrives at the Los Angeles train station from Phoenix, a malodorous fluid leaking from her two trunks revealed the dismembered bodies of two women inside.

The search for, and eventual apprehension of, the Trunk Murderess quickly becomes a national headline-making sensation. How could a twenty-six-year-old reverend’s daughter and doctor’s wife―petite, pretty, well educated, and poised―commit such a heinous act on two people she’d called “my dearest friends in the world”? Everyone has their theories, but no one knows the whole truth.

Also an investigative reporter, the author weaves superbly crafted fictionalized scenarios between hard facts of this actual, notorious case.

SPECIAL NOTE: Laurie Notaro will join us for our discussion! She went to high school with our own Duet Caregiver Services Director, Janet (Povinelly) Richards, so they’ll reunite at our discussion, as well.
